ChatGPT is OpenAI’s chatbot: you type or talk to it in natural language and it answers, writes, translates, summarises documents, analyses data, codes, searches the web or creates images. Since October 2026 it runs on the GPT-6 family, which can reply with charts, buttons, maps or small calculators inside the conversation.
In 2026 it moved from chat to agent: with ChatGPT Work it gathers information from your apps and files and delivers finished work (presentations, spreadsheets, documents), and with Codex it writes and reviews code. It is the benchmark every other assistant is compared with.
It might suit you if…
Anyone who wants a single assistant for everything (studying, writing, getting organised); professionals and freelancers who want to delegate reports, slides or spreadsheets; developers (with Codex).
Try a concrete use case.
For long jobs, such as a report with its spreadsheet and slide deck, use ChatGPT Work in the desktop app (also on the free plan, with limits). For personal matters, open a temporary chat: it is not used for training and is deleted after 30 days.
What to check.
The Free and Go plans show ads in Spain since August 2026. By default your chats may be used for training (turn it off in Settings > Data controls) and, like any generative AI, it can make things up: double-check what matters.
Why this tier
The industry standard for multimodal versatility, its GPT ecosystem and reliability in both creative and technical tasks.
Pros and cons
Pros
- The Swiss Army knife of AI: writes, summarises, translates, codes, analyses files, searches the web, talks by voice and creates images in one window.
- Interactive answers with GPT-6: charts, comparisons, maps or calculators inside the chat.
- ChatGPT Work and Codex work for hours on complex tasks and hand back the finished result.
- Generous free plan (GPT-6 Luna, no fixed cap on text chats) and a huge ecosystem of GPTs and connectors.
Cons
- Ads on the Free and Go plans in Spain; removing them means upgrading to Plus.
- Privacy could be better: training on by default and a €15 million fine in Italy (2024).
- Confusing line-up: model names that change every few months and three Pro plans, the top one above €500 a month.
